That's my life experience of politics.

Something bad for the public happens (but good for a given vested interest) and incompetence is blamed. Maybe someone head rolls or maybe it doesn't, much moreso in the old days than these days. On to the next thing.

Same pattern again and again and again. No-one ever tries to permanently fix the incompetence, just quick fixes that do little.

I suspect this shooting was allowed/helped to happen.
