The advantages are: name.com has a much less cluttered administration interface than Godaddy, and you can go directly into name.com to make changes or to check things very quickly.
Also, price: although Godaddy once had a reputation as a price leader, name.com now has much better overall package pricing. Godaddy charges $10.69/yr for a new domain, and $8.99/yr for "domain privacy" which cloaks your name, address, phone and email information. Name.com charges a flat $8.99/year for new domains, transfer and renewals, and that includes domain privacy service at your option.
The way Godaddy charges for and administers domain privacy is a complete PITA. The domain privacy must be purchased separately and you administer it from a different web site that is a partner to Godaddy. And, if you change your mind on privacy with Godaddy and later cancel it, you lose any remaining time on the privacy for the year. With Name.com you just make one setting change to enable or disable privacy and you don't have to pay to do so.
Highly recommended. Not only for cost savings but to bypass Godaddy's hyper-aggressive, spammy marketing of add-on products.
