Do you think this could be true? (Public Board)

"According to a survey by Resume Templates, 26 percent of those ages 18 to 27 brought along a parent to a job interview — and that’s just the beginning of the disturbing findings from the survey, conducted in April among 1,428 U.S.-based respondents who said they had searched for a job in the last year."

I hope it isn't but if it is, this world is in trouble. They have to grow up sometime and if it means failing to get the job, as we've all gone through, that's the breaks. They need to get used to rejection and do better the next time.

The parents sitting in on their kid's job interview are doing that kid a huge disservice. They need to let go. I can't believe they were talking about "kids" aged 18 to 27. Age 27 is not a kid.

I'm sure that the individuals doing this are 18 rather than 27. But no-one should be doing it at all, I agree, especially the parents(!). If I was the interviewer it would be straight into the round file for that person.

Who would hire a young kid that came to the job interview with his mommy or daddy? I don't think any company would.

By the time a kid reaches 18 he or she should already have work experience. I had my first job working in a supermarket after school a few days a week at 16. I wanted to work and make money so I could buy things I wanted and save for a car. Today, kids don't want to work and expect things to be given to them. This is a lost generation.

Same. I was doing shifts at Kentucky Fried Chicken from Year 10 until the middle of the year after Year 12. Saved a ton of cash.

Wow! You were working at 10 years old at KFC? That's really young. That isn't allowed in the US. When I was a younger teen, I babysat for money but that's it. I was allowed to work at a real job at 16 so that's what I did. I was able to buy my first car, a 65 Mustang Convertible. It wasn't mechanically that sound, but I liked how it looked and got it cheap, so it was the way to go. Back then, you used to be able to repair your own car. Now, cars are too complicated.

A Mustang ragtop for a first car. That is cool. Who cares how well it goes :) Mine was a Holden ute. Out of the few people at school with a car, mine was best. But it was no Mustang.

Year 10 is tenth year of school. Kindergarten (age 4 or 5), Year 1, Year 2 etc.

The Holden Ute looks like a cool car and so useful. I'm sure it ran better than my Mustang, but I only used my car for cruising around locally. I had a lot of fun with it but I was only 17 and my Mom had a problem with me driving too far.

I'm glad you weren't working at KFC 10 years old. How old were you in the 10th year of school? Labor laws here in the US say you can work most jobs at 16.

It was a fantastic car and it was only 6 or 7 years old when I went halves in it with my dad. It was similar to this Kingswood except not a Kingswood so with a plainer grille. And it was a beautiful red-orange colour. I added a sports steering wheel and fats (wide tyres). I bought a tonneau (black tray cover same as in the pic) and that was stolen while I was playing tennis so I didn't replace it. I only sold it because I went to uni and needed cash.

I bet that car looked great with a tonneau cover in the back. Its a shame it got stolen. Thats a cool car to have when you're a kid, and so useful too. The fats and sports steering wheel probably made it look really bad a$$.

Nice. Reminds me of the El Camino. My grandfather had a black El Camino.

I was delivering papers at 11 years old. The age was supposed to be 12 but they needed carriers and somehow got me hired. Did that until I was 16 or so and then got my first "real" job at a fast food joint when I was 17.

Sadly I don't think delivering papers is an option for kids anymore.

That was a good job for a young kid. It taught discipline and responsibility, something all kids need. Today's kids are spoiled and don't want to work at that age. Plus they're consumed with all kinds of extra-curricular activities that are way more important than developing a good work ethic.

I remember being at my brother's house at a family party. My young niece, who was 16 at the time, was being encouraged to get a job by him. She was against the idea, of course, because she had so many sports practices and it would have meant she would have to give up some of them. Oh, boo hoo.

I think back to myself at her age and I wanted to work and make a life for myself, away from my parents. No one had to push me into it.
